Request new features, and bugs found

  1. 2 years ago

I have been switching between Firefox, Google Chrome and Maxthon for web surfing and Thunderbird, winPIM, Essential PIM, Miscrosoft Outlook for email, and still looking for the best but have not find one yet. All have pro and con....

Been using this PIM since doOrganizer was out but the software have alot of bug.

if possible, can add the following suggestion / request new features?

    Web Browsing:
1: support script. Eg. greasemonkey script
2: multi browser engine (Maxthon) so we can toggle between firefox, ie or chrome
3: bookmark cleaning, to remove duplicated bookmarks
4: support Roboform Password Manager (chrome, firefox, ie and Maxthon have plugin to it) and i find it is the most user friendly passowrd manager. esp the form filler.

    Email:
    1: clean up duplicated email
2: support contact photo to email header like MS outlook or gmail
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwQc5S_BovUsUl9BanFyemZlUjA

I love this software due to it portability. I run this software from USB Hard-disk and USB 3 thumbdrive without any issue and it can handle 10k email ( i have pop3 it from yahoo mail, gmail, hotmail, even from my webhost mail.)

    Bug:
1: some email image cannot be display. eg newsletter from forex broker pepperstone. https://pepperstone.com/en/
or some html message (picture layout mess up)
    http://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwQc5S_BovUsNVVQaU1zbXZyVmM using DoogiePIM
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwQc5S_BovUsbk9qanFXR3VhV0E using Maxthon
2: some message align too much to the left and have cut off
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwQc5S_BovUsMHZoSWh6ajdnXzg

Hopefully can sync contacts and calendar to my android phone soon :D

Thanks for your time and please excuse my English :P

    Best Regards,
    Wee HweeShyan

Firstly, welcome to the doogiePIM community and thank you kindly for your detailed feedback.

@wee I have been switching between Firefox, Google Chrome and Maxthon for web surfing and Thunderbird, winPIM, Essential PIM, Miscrosoft Outlook for email, and still looking for the best but have not find one yet. All have pro and con....

    You've found one. doogiePIM :)

@wee if possible, can add the following suggestion / request new features?

    Web Browsing:
1: support script. Eg. greasemonkey script

Custom Addons and Plugins will be a feature that will be included at some stage in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.

@wee 2: multi browser engine (Maxthon) so we can toggle between firefox, ie or chrome

I will consider the use of other browser rendering engines, but at the moment, Blink is working as well as I wish for doogiePIM.

@wee 3: bookmark cleaning, to remove duplicated bookmarks

I'll implement something like the Messages features of duplicates... see below.

@wee 4: support Roboform Password Manager (chrome, firefox, ie and Maxthon have plugin to it) and i find it is the most user friendly passowrd manager. esp the form filler.

doogiePIM has a wonderful Vault section for this. You could even use the extra password/username fields in a bookmark's detail window too. I refuse to implement Automatic Form Filling until a good secure method is found to combat hackers. You should be aware that some automatic form fillers can be a security risk.

    @wee Email:
    1: clean up duplicated email

The Messages section does have a "Highlight Duplicates" command. Select the root folder then choose "Highlight Duplicates" from the "Messages" menu. Once you have these highlighted, you can then delete them or move them to some other folder for further processing.

@wee 2: support contact photo to email header like MS outlook or gmail
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwQc5S_BovUsUl9BanFyemZlUjA

This will be implemented very soon. Thanks for the suggestion.

@wee I love this software due to it portability. I run this software from USB Hard-disk and USB 3 thumbdrive without any issue and it can handle 10k email ( i have pop3 it from yahoo mail, gmail, hotmail, even from my webhost mail.)

My current database has 121,348 messages. Over 5 years worth of email. Imagine what that would cost in postage if these were letters :o

    @wee Bug:
1: some email image cannot be display. eg newsletter from forex broker pepperstone. https://pepperstone.com/en/
or some html message (picture layout mess up)
    http://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwQc5S_BovUsNVVQaU1zbXZyVmM using DoogiePIM
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwQc5S_BovUsbk9qanFXR3VhV0E using Maxthon

This may be due to the remote image loading. I'll take a look at it.

@wee 2: some message align too much to the left and have cut off
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwQc5S_BovUsMHZoSWh6ajdnXzg

I'm already aware of this table format problem and in the middle of fixing it. Thanks for reporting it.

@wee Hopefully can sync contacts and calendar to my android phone soon :D

Pssst.... Don't tell anyone but I'm working on an Android version with sync through local network as we speak. I'm hoping to have a beta version of this by the end of the year. ;)

@wee Thanks for your time and please excuse my English :P

You're more than welcome. Thank you for YOUR time in writing such wonderful feedback and your support of doogiePIM.

  3. Hi Chris,

    Thanks for the updates.

for 1: some email image cannot be display. eg newsletter from forex broker pepperstone.
or some html message (picture layout mess up)

I suspect it is due to image type. I donno if this is the reason that cause the problem. They use bitmap not png or jpeg.

    Best Regards,
    Wee HweeShyan

I re-examined the source of the company's newsletter and found there is an image source markup that is a constructed image redirect. This type of operation is very dangerous to privacy and your security. Therefore, I won't be coding in a "work around" for this type of operation as it goes against the premise of what I want doogiePIM to essentially be. My advice is, you shouldn't view remote images in email messages especially when that image URL is redirected to another file. What if that redirection was a hack at the server side or even a "man in the middle " and was delivering a virus to you?

Without the downloading of images in email messages, I believe you are still able to read the content of the message and get the intended information. If you really do require images, then perhaps visiting the actual website, using HTTPS protocol, and get the visual newsletter from there.

I'm very open to criticism, so I could be wrong in my thinking and vision. What do you think?

  5. You are correct about security. It is better to be safe than sorry. no worry about the suggestion, it just make the message look prettier and it save a few click for me (i am lazy) :P

I get 50-100+ email per day ( i know you and other get alot more :D ) , so my practice is i scan the mail title and image. if i need to click the link, normally i will check the hyperlink address that will point to the correct link. if the title or link look suspicious, i don't click the link to check it out from the browser, i delete the mail straight away. if the mail is in spam folder, i don't bother to check, i empty it straight away.

Can i make 1 request on message display?
Are you able to add a option to allow message fit to screen width. or make the message responsive like browsing with a moblie?

    Thanks and Regards,
    Wee HweeShyan
