GMail - Initial Email Receipt

  1. last year

On initial setup to connect to GMail, I select "check all accounts for new messages." DPIM downloads approximately 300 of my oldest messages (all read on GMail), marks them unread, and does not maintain each message's assigned labels. When I select "check all accounts for messages" again, DPIM downloads the next 300-400 messages, marks those unread, and does not maintain each message's labels. Wash, rinse, repeat.

    Questions:

    1. How can I get DPIM to simply download all the messages in one go?
    2. Is it possible to maintain message labels and have them automatically sort in like named folders within DPIM?

    Thanks in advance!

This is actually a Gmail "feature". Approx. 300 messages at a time is allowed to stop "overloading". doogiePIM is unable to grab more if Google doesn't allow it. Other email clients get around it by downloading the next 300 as soon as the first is done.

The labels belong to Gmail. If you are using POP3 then no label will come along with it. I am developing IMAP4 for a future version that will take the label/folder into doogiePIM.

Take a look at Flag Markers in doogiePIM. These are essentially the same thing but a single marker. You can set up Rules for assigning a message to a Flag Marker and place it into a particular Folder if needed.

I hope this helps and thanks for the feedback.

  3. Chris - thanks for clarifying. This "feature" has slowed to downloading only one or two emails per attempt. It took the better part of two hours yesterday to download about 9,000 emails. I still have about 3,000 to go. At this rate, I'll be here a while.

  4. The "feature" actually slowed to one email conversation at a time. after about 16 hours at it, I finally imported all 12,700 emails into DPIM. Not ideal, but we got there.
