Question about export of document group.

  1. 5 years ago

    I am just starting to look at doogiePIM.
    Is there a way to export/print a group of documents rather than just doing it one at a time?

    The text can be exported using a Report, but that's not the same thing and loses formatting.
    (I also notice that there does not seem to be an option to respect the document series according to the folder/document hierarchy).

    Many thanks for you wonderful feedback and welcome to the doogiePIM community.

    There's no current way to export multiple document, yet. This was suggested by another user and is in the feature list to do. Now I know others want it too, I shall expedite it.

    I'm not sure what you mean by "document series". Please explain in further detail.

  3. It's the hierarchy with sub-documents as they appear in the tree.

    Hmm. Looks like a new Report Criteria Field is needed: "Child of Document".

    However, I shall add an option in the multiple export of Documents in the Documents Section to include;

    1. All Documents as a child of the focused document.
    2. Only the selected Documents. (Ctrl+Click for multiples).
    3. Everything except the selected Documents. (An inverse of no. 2).
    4. All documents, whether selected or not. (Everything)

    The options would then go to;

    1. Export to a single file. (This will ignore margins and page layout of everything except the first page).
    2. Export to a single file for each document. (Exports to a new folder on your storage media).

    File formats:

    1. DOCX.
    2. PDF.
    3. RTF.
    4. DON.
    5. HTML.

    I think that should cover it. The development of this would be a few weeks as I'm quite busy with some other development that is need right now. If you have any other ideas or changes, let me know.

    Chris

  5. Thanks.

    The idea is that someone could write an essay, report, thesis or book in sections (eg Book, Volumes, Chapters, Sections, Paragraphs), shuffling the sections around as necessary during writing and then export the whole for publication in whatever form is desired.

    Hi

    I'm assuming that this hasn't been implemented yet?

    The dedicated feature isn't available yet but you can try this method:

  8. OK. Thanks.

    Convoluted but functional.

    I'm not likely to use it frequently, so that's managable

    Of course, once a report is set up, updating is easy and quick.

    As a matter of interest, I checked to see what could be done from the noteboard. Seems that it can print the text from all selected blocks (each on a separate page), but only in the block age sequence (0001 first & etc) - even if the names have been changed. Couldn't find an easy way to type a large amount of text into them without expanding the block or using cut and paste. I wondered whether the type of functionality seen in the Scrivener (v3) corkboard vis a vis the main text would be possible; but then I thought would I really want to use it like that? Tried to see if same could be implemented using linked documents, but switching to the linked document was very slow on my computer (would have been much faster to do it manually) despite very small database and a computer that's not very slow (Surface Book).

    PS Tried compacting the database and the switching was much snappier. Expected behaviour? How often should we compact?
